From a forgotten mining outpost to a sanctuary where tired souls find their rhythm again.
The original stone lodge was built by prospectors who'd given up on gold but fell hard for the views. Can't say they were wrong about that trade-off.
The McKinnon family bought the place for what grandpa called "a song and a handshake." Turned out that song was pretty expensive when they realized the roof needed replacing.
Major renovation happened after the big winter storm. We kept every original stone we could salvage - they're literally part of the mountain, felt wrong to replace 'em with anything else.
Added the wellness center and updated guest rooms. Folks wanted hot stone massages and heated bathroom floors - we get it, roughing it has its limits.
Here we are - third generation running the show. Still using grandpa's recipe for bannock, still fighting with the same cantankerous boiler, still watching people's faces light up when they see the sunrise from the ridge.
Sarah and James McKinnon didn't exactly plan on running a mountain lodge.
James grew up here - his grandfather was the one who made that "handshake deal" back in '67. Sarah showed up one summer as a hiking guide and, well, never left. They joke that the mountains had other plans for both of them.
These days you'll find James fixing whatever broke that morning (there's always something) or leading early morning hikes for the folks who actually want to be up at 5 AM. Sarah runs the kitchen and somehow remembers everyone's dietary restrictions without writing anything down - it's kind of freaky, honestly.
Their daughter Emma's starting to take over operations, which means we finally have someone under 50 who understands why the Wi-Fi keeps cutting out. Progress, right?
The people who make this place run - some days smoother than others.
Head Guide
Former park ranger who knows these trails better than his own driveway. If Marcus says it's gonna rain, grab a jacket - he's never wrong.
Executive Chef
Trained in Vancouver but grew up on a farm - she brings both fancy technique and grandma's common sense to the kitchen. Her sourdough's legendary.
Spa Director
Runs the wellness center like a zen master with a clipboard. She'll fix your tight shoulders and your whole outlook on life in the same session.
Facilities Manager
Been here 30 years and there isn't a pipe or beam he doesn't know personally. If something breaks at 3 AM, Tom's already on it.
Operations Manager
Third generation at the lodge and finally teaching her parents about spreadsheets. Somehow juggles bookings, staffing, and keeping the family from arguing at dinner.
Bar Manager
Mixologist who actually listens when you tell your life story. Makes a mean Old Fashioned and knows exactly when you need one.
Guest Relations
The first friendly face you'll see and somehow remembers your name three visits later. If you need anything - and we mean anything - she'll sort it out.
Chief Morale Officer
Golden retriever who takes his job of greeting every single guest very seriously. Excellent at finding dropped snacks and demanding belly rubs.
Look, we're not trying to be the fanciest place in the Rockies. We're just a family-run lodge that happens to sit on some of the prettiest land you'll ever see.
We believe good food doesn't need to be complicated, that the best conversations happen around a fire, and that sometimes you need to disconnect from everything to remember what actually matters. Our stone walls have been standing here for over a century - they've seen a lot, weathered plenty, and they're not going anywhere.
If that sounds like your kind of place, we'd love to have you up.
